From Silicon Valley to Silicon Gulf to Silicon Forest
It turns out my business visa is still active, so I might be set to be at Portland, Oregon sooner than I thought. It will be on a project basis, a limited term stay for 8 months maximum. However, I hope to be able to convert to a working visa within the year, and do the same for my wife-to-be.
Portland, Oregon used to be called Silicon Forest in the mid-80's. I don't know if it really maintained that cutting edge status, as back then, semiconductors and software were all the rage. Now, there aren't that much web companies there, except Yahoo!
Nevertheless, Portland is a small city that has its own appeal, and I prefer small cities over Los Angeles, New York or Chicago any day.
Besides, cost of living in these areas are way better. A studio apartment can be gotten at almost the same price as the garage attic room I got back in the Valley.
